Had some more interesting comments about the server specification. Here's a couple:
'Go for P3 as you commented, a lot cooler, and RAMBUS is VERY hot for 1U' 'A motherboard with on-board graphics is a GOOD idea in a 1U case' 'On-board LAN and an additional card is good' 'If you are going with Linux I wouldn't recommend the Promise controllers' 'The box you've been quoted is expensive - I would consider building your own'
So some more investigation required before deciding on the box.
I've had a few more people expressing an interest in the co-op and it looks like it will be good to go soon.
I'll be away for a week though so don't expect anything to happen too soon!

Need to make a decision about what bandwidth deal we are going for. There are two options:
1. Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) - this is £5.50+VAT/month/GB upto 10GB. Not sure what happens above 10GB, will check. 2. Unlimited bandwidth - £200+VAT/month
Obviously a big difference in costs! The second option would only be possible if we had more people/server.
However what I've been thinking is with the PAYG so cheap, we can afford to have a lot fewer people per server (thus using less bandwidth each). This option would mean higher startup costs (as each server cost would be shared between fewer people), but the running costs would be much lower.
Unlimited is very tempting though.
